SARA RENFREW, Jazz Whitwell and Ali Smith were all on target as leaders York City Ladies beat an understrength Hessle Town 3-2 in the North East Regional Women’s Football League premier division.
Against opponents who could only field ten players due to illness, Megan Bramham had the first chance of the game after only two minutes but shot straight at the keeper following Whitwell’s great cross.
Moments later, Beth Clayton tapped the ball in but was ruled offside before York made the breakthrough on ten minutes when Renfrew converted from close range following an Ashlee Brack corner.
Bramham went on to strike the crossbar with a great effort from the wing but, eight minutes into the second half, the scores were level after a well-taken free-kick.
City restored their lead on 78 minutes when Whitwell charged upfield and cut inside before finding the net.
Ten minutes later, player/ manager Kayleigh Davies and Bramham combined to tee up Smith for a third but Hessle reduced the deficit with a goal straight from a corner and the Minster ladies survived two minutes of added-on time.
