YORK City have been instructed to pay Barnet £25,000 for striker Jake Hyde, but will receive the same fee from Gateshead for ex-defender Tom Allan.

A tribunal, described as "very fair" by City chief Russ Wilcox, determined the valuations at Wembley Stadium with Hyde's price potentially rising to £40,000 dependant on appearances for the Minstermen.

The first of three £5,000 instalments is now payable to the Bees with Hyde having played more than 15 times for City.

Further transactions will be due when the 24-year forward has passed 30 and 45 outings, while Barnet will profit from a 15 per cent sell-on clause should Hyde move on from City for a transfer fee in the future.

The Minstermen, meanwhile, will receive 40 per cent of any fee should Gateshead sell 20-year-old defender Allan.

Wilcox believes that chairman Jason McGill's persuasive and professional manner helped secure a favourable verdict for the Minstermen, with Barnet understood to have wanted £150,000 for Hyde's services and Gateshead hoping to only pay £5,000 for Allan.

"It was a very fair tribunal and we came out of it really well in both cases," the City boss admitted. "The way the chairman presented our side was excellent.

"He had done his homework and was very professional and organised and knew all the facts and figures relating to both cases. He spoke really well regarding all aspects and that's why we got such a good outcome."

Despite an injury-interrupted start to his Bootham Crescent career, Hyde is City's top scorer this term with five goals from 18 appearances.

Allan, meanwhile, has only started eight of the Heed's 23 league games, but Wilcox feels the valuation is an important reflection of the development time the club spent on the player, who first joined City at the age of 11 and was offered a new two-year contract at the end of last season.

"In the case of Tom Allan, we nurtured him for nine years, which is different to Jake at Barnet and I think that's why the figures are fair," the Minstermen chief reasoned. "The fee we are receiving reflects the nine years of work that went in to developing the player.

"Jake's football education was at Swindon and he had only been at Barnet for two years. He is also a little bit older and was only one day away from being a free agent under the Bosman Ruling, so I don't know if that made any difference."

Wilcox has revealed, meanwhile, that he does not expect a busy January transfer window unless some of the club's current loan quintet of Diego De Girolamo, Carlton Morris, Alex Cisak, Stephane Zubar and Brad Halliday are recalled by their parent clubs.

"We had targets during the last loan window and I am very happy with the squad," Wilcox explained. "Whether we recruit in January could depend on whether some of the loan players go back and, if that happens, I have got names ready to fill slots if needed."

With City without a match on Saturday, Wilcox will spend the day watching the FA Cup tie between City's December 20 hosts Bury and high-flying Luton to learn more about both teams, adding: "We have got Bury coming up in a couple of weeks' time so that will be the main reason for my port of call, but I've not seen Luton at all.

"I have heard they are a really good side, so it will give me the chance to look at both teams."

City's players, meanwhile, will be given a rare weekend off with Wilcox pleased by their attitude and application at the club's Wigginton Road training base this week.

He said: "Sometimes during a free weekend, players can switch off a bit, but that's not been the case at all. We've been working on different shapes to the team in case we need to change system because it's very important to be flexible.

"They had Monday off after the Plymouth game but have been in every other day, so they will have the weekend off."

Wilcox has also used this week to help the likes of Josh Carson and Dave Winfield continue their recovery from long injury lay-offs.

"We tried to play a behind-closed-doors game but that didn't come off so we've had a couple of in-house, 11v11 practice matches instead," the City boss added. "It was good to see Dave Winfield get through them with no reaction and Josh is getting fitter and stronger all the time."
