LOAN star Stephane Zubar wants to enjoy "every minute" of his spell at York City - and hasn't ruled out an extended stay at Bootham Crescent.

The 28-year-old Guadeloupe international was pitched straight in at the deep end as he began his month with the Minstermen, coming off the bench to replace John McCombe after just 27 minutes of the 1-1 FA Cup draw with AFC Wimbledon.

Zubar, on a stint from Bournemouth, only met his team-mates for the first time at 1pmon the day of the game but slotted in and stuck to "the basics" as City earned a replay at Kingsmeadow on Tuesday night.

But, describing his first few days as "perfect", the former Caen, Vaslui and Plymouth Argyle defender is hoping he has done enough to start York's home League Two clash with Oxford United this afternoon.

"I met the guys about an hour before the game last Saturday and I was lucky to come on," Zubar said of his unusual introduction to City. "Everything happened really, really quickly.

"I knew only one player, Luke Summerfield, because I played with him at Plymouth, but otherwise I knew no-one. It was tough on the pitch because when you don't even know your team-mates you just have to do the basics.

"To be honest, I really enjoyed it. That's football."

On his chances of a starting berth, he added: " It is up the manager but the lads are terrific. I'm getting to know them better and if I have got the opportunity to start against Oxford it would be just perfect.

"The most important thing is not my situation but the club's."

"I prefer to be on the pitch. That's the answer," Zubar joked when asked whether he preferred to play at centre-half or full-back.

"I know the manager from Bournemouth and Bury. I can easily play out wide or centre-back. I will try to bring my experience and to add something else to the squad. I am here to play games.

"I have been to Port Vale (this season). I was unlucky. I was sent off after three games (against Preston North End in a 2-0 defeat at Deepdale) so they had to bring someone else in. That's football.

"I am here to play, train really hard and just make sure I am ready. It is up to the manager but I am here to play and to try and make the difference."

After that, Zubar said he will "see what happens" at the conclusion of his spell and, having swapped the Championship for English football's basement, believes League Two to be "a battle".

"In football you never know exactly what can happen," he said on his long term aspirations. "I just want to enjoy my time here. I am here for a month and trying to enjoy every single day and every single minute.

"Afterwards we will see what will happen at the end of the month.

"For some people who have never played League Two, they will think that it is easy. It is not easy. You make to sure you are ready in every single game for a fight. There is not much difference between League One and League Two. You have to make sure you are ready for a battle.

"I try to enjoy it. I was injured for 13 months (with a cruciate ligament tear in March last year) so I try to enjoy every single moment. I'd like to thank York for giving me that opportunity to show exactly what I can do and I hope, at the end of the month, they will be happy and we can talk from there."
