YORK City boss Russ Wilcox has not ruled out raiding old club Scunthorpe if he needs loan reinforcements at Bootham Crescent.

Wilcox will not add to his squad ahead of tonight's Sky Bet League Two clash at Morecambe but has admitted that Glanford Park will be a possible port of call should he feel he needs to strengthen the Minstermen's ranks later this week.

While revealing a move for out-of-favour, ex-Burton striker Billy Kee, who he signed for the Iron over the summer, was unlikely, Wilcox went on to confess that he sees the advantages in recruiting players he has worked with before and trusts.

He said: "That's always an option because, as a manager, it's important you know what you are getting in terms of the player, person and their character. You see it happen at a lot of clubs because you then know exactly what comes through your door.

"For now, I am still looking at the players here and what may be needed further down the line. When I've got the first two games out of the way, I will then be sitting down to see what we can do."

With the club having dropped into the bottom two over the weekend, Wilcox's first priority, meanwhile, is to climb out of that relegation zone as quickly as possible.

He admitted: "It's not a good place to be and it's not nice to look at the table but we only need to think back to what happened here last season for an example of how quickly your league position can change. We've got to have that belief that we can do the same in the next few weeks.

"I know I've got a good set of lads, who are hard working and want to be successful. They know we should be higher in the table but there's a long way to go yet."

Despite fielding his predecessor Nigel Worthington’s favoured 4-4-2 formation against Shrewsbury, Wilcox has also expressed a willingness to consider alternative systems during his tenure.

“It’s difficult to say so soon whether this squad is suited to 4-4-2 but, sometimes, you do have to be adaptable and flexible,” he explained. “I am working with a different group of players to what I had last season, so it will be a matter of horses for courses.”

Wilcox expressed his thanks, too, for the board’s sanctioning of a hotel stay last night before facing Morecambe.

“Not many teams in League Two would be able to do that, so our preparations will be spot on,” he explained.
