YORK City have now won just one of their last 15 matches after a 2-0 defeat at fellow strugglers Dagenham.

Former Minsterman Ashley Chambers claimed a couple of assists for the hosts, teeing up midfielder Joss Labadie for the only goals of the game.

City employed a new-look 4-2-3-1 formation at Victoria Road with Wes Fletcher playing as a lone centre forward and Michael Coulson given a roaming role behind him.

The visitors enjoyed the better of the opening exchanges with Coulson flashing a 20-yard chance narrowly off target and an unmarked Jake Hyde heading wide from Luke Summerfield’s corner.

But it was the hosts who forged in front on 35 minutes when Chambers’ poor cross, following a left-wing raid, wrong-footed everybody except Labadie, who retrieved possession on the edge of the Minstermen’s box, sidestepped a Summerfield lunge and found Michael Ingham’s bottom right-hand corner from 15 yards.

Just before the hour mark, Dave Winfield squandered an excellent opportunity to level when he headed wide from five yards from Summerfield’s corner.

Three minutes later, the Daggers had doubled their advantage when Ryan Jarvis was penalised for handball and Chambers curled the subsequent left-wing free kick on to the head of Labadie, who beat Ingham from five yards.

At the other end, Jarvis fired across the face of goal, Coulson blazed over from a promising opening and Winfield had a far-post header saved but, once more, it was too little, too late for Nigel Worthington’s men.
