RYAN JARVIS scored twice as York City reserves won 3-2 against a Loughborough Students team.

The former Norwich and Torquay forward was joined on the scoresheet by 16-year-old striker Ben Hirst in the behind-closed-doors contest at the club’s Wigginton Road training ground.

Jarvis was critical of the lack of second-string matches for City’s fringe players last week, having not started a Sky Bet League Two game since the opening day of the season.

There have also been question marks concerning his energy levels that Jarvis attributed to a lack of match fitness, but he managed to play for the majority of the Loughborough game. On Jarvis’ display and the general team performance, City boss Nigel Worthington said: “He worked hard, got his two goals and came through a large amount of the game, which was a plus.

“We were playing a team of Loughborough students who have dropped out of football clubs and want to go down another route and it was good to get 90 minutes into the senior players who haven’t been playing.

“It gave them the opportunity to show what they can do and get some sharpness into them.”

Worthington was also travelling to another reserve match last night to run the rule over a potential loan target.
