YORK City lost their first SkyBet League Two game on the road for almost eight months following a 2-0 defeat at table-topping Burton.

Second-half goals from Lucas Akins and John Mousinho secured maximum points for the Brewers and condemned City to a first away reverse since Hartlepool overcame Nigel Worthington’s men back in January.

An evenly-contested first half at the Pirelli Stadium saw chances created by both teams.

The Minstermen’s best effort of the opening 45 minutes saw Luke Summerfield’s firm, 25-yard drive unconvincingly pushed wide by home keeper Jon McLaughlin.

At the other end, Keith Lowe headed Mousinho’s 25-yard lob off the line after Michael Ingham had charged out of his goal to punch away.

After the break, City went close on 53 minutes when, at the end of a flowing move, Anthony Straker’s shot was smothered by an alert McLaughlin.

But it was the hosts who made the breakthrough two minutes later.

Winger Alex MacDonald raced past Femi Ilesanmi and his cross fell to Adam McGurk, whose ten-yard effort was brilliantly blocked by Keith Lowe.

The loose ball then fell to Akins, though, with the former Stevenage winger blasting a low ten-yard drive past Ingham.

McGurk went on to rattle Ingham’s crossbar, following a positive burst down the left by Stuart Beavon, while Summerfield saw another long-range attempt saved by McLaughlin.

But the impressive Mousinho settled matters on 80 minutes with a spectacular 30-yard strike into Ingham’s bottom right-hand corner after Ilesanmi had tackled Robbie Weir on the edge of the penalty box.

Late attempts from Jake Hyde, Russell Penn and Michael Coulson also failed to earn the visitors a consolation.
