FULL-BACK Marvin McCoy is happy to keep providing attacking assistance for York City.

The Antigua & Barbuda international earned the match-winning penalty for his side in Saturday's 3-2 victory at Stevenage after a positive burst into the home box.

That contribution represented the 25-year-old defender's second assist of the season - a tally only matched at Bootham Crescent by striker Michael Coulson and winger Lindon Meikle - with McCoy admitting he enjoys bombing up the pitch.

"I like to get forward," he said. "Anybody who knows me is aware of that.

"I would have liked to keep a clean sheet on Saturday, but winning a penalty was a good boost and a bonus. We needed somebody to step up and do something and I'm happy that it was me."

Prior to Wes Fletcher settling matters from the spot on 76 minutes at Broadhall Way, City had thrown away a 2-0 lead against a home side reduced to ten men just past the half-hour mark and after Nigel Worthington's men had doubled their advantage.

McCoy has confessed that, following Stevenage's equaliser midway through the second period, he would have settled for a point as the Hertfordshire side built up a head of steam.

"At 2-2, all I was thinking was just don't lose," he revealed. "When you are 2-0 up and the opposition come back to draw level, that's what's going through your mind but, credit to the boys, we got the win and, overall, we deserved it.

"Obviously, when you have a two-goal lead, you want to hold on to that and kept a clean sheet but they are a tough and resilient side, so it was good to get the three points."

McCoy also added that the club's first three points of the campaign and first victory in all competitions this term has lifted a weight off the players' shoulders, saying: "It takes away a lot of pressure because, after five league draws on the bounce, you are thinking when is that first win going to come but, luckily, we've got it now and can move on."

With Fletcher bagging a brace at the weekend after Coulson had opened the scoring, McCoy is confident that question marks have been answered concerning the team's firepower, following a run of one goal from general play in the opening seven fixtures.

"Wes Fletcher and Michael Coulson were brilliant from start to finish," he pointed out. "They held the ball up well and took their chances, so long may it continue."
