YORK City’s players have reported back for pre-season training in fine fettle, according to manager Nigel Worthington.

The Minstermen returned to work at Wigginton Road 45 days on from the play-off semi-final defeat at Fleetwood that marked the end of their last campaign.

Dan Parslow and Wes Fletcher both joined in the running and it is hoped the pair will feature during the latter stages of the club’s friendly schedule following their respective cruciate and medial ligament knee injuries last season.

All of the club’s seven summer signings - Femi Ilesanmi, Jason Mooney, Jake Hyde, Marvin McCoy, Anthony Straker, Dave Winfield and Luke Summerfield - were in attendance with a satisfied Worthington saying: “The players have come back in excellent condition.

“They have all been weighed and tested and are in good nick, which allows myself and Steve (Torpey) to push on and make progress quite quickly.

“That’s good because the Sheffield Wednesday game might be coming up a bit early but, as long as we work hard in the matches and during training, we will be fine in terms of getting up to speed before Tranmere away on August 9.”
