RICHARD CRESSWELL has signed for York City on loan until the end of the season.

The former Bootham Crescent favourite, now 35, has made the switch from League One promotion hopefuls Sheffield United and will be available for Saturday’s away clash with relegation rivals Torquay.

City boss Nigel Worthington said: “Richard started his career with York and still lives in the city.

“He knows what is happening here and has a feeling for the club. He will bring a wealth of experience of winning matches and that’s what we need.

“He’s also played at the highest level and I am absolutely delighted to get a player of his calibre and experience.

“His presence in the dressing room should get the best out of the other players as well.”

Striker Cresswell represented England under-21s during his first spell with the Minstermen before joining Sheffield Wednesday in a £950,000 deal.

He netted 24 times in 111 matches for City between 1995 and 1999 and has 140 career goals to his name.
