York City have lessons to learn - assistant manager

York City assistant manager Darron Gee York City assistant manager Darron Gee

LESSONS must be learned by York City if they are to turnaround their stuttering form at Wycombe Wanderers today.

The Minstermen have won only one of their last eight games and, in the wake of last weekend’s 4-1 home defeat by Morecambe, assistant manager Darron Gee believes they need to improve at both ends of the pitch.

Gee said: “We’ve had a bit of a chat and, realistically, the Morecambe game swung on two pivotal moments.

“Dan Parslow failed to take a chance at 1-1 and, a couple of minutes later, Michael Ingham made an individual error which he hasn’t done all season and we ended up 2-1 down.

“We know we have to be more ruthless but, when you are chasing a game, you still have to defend as well. Possibly, we have to take some responsibility as a management team too. Maybe, we need to believe in what we are best at instead of looking to change formation.”

Playing your best defender helps. Yes, I''m talking about the one and only David McGurk. Brings a calming influence to proceedings.

Just a thought.

With DG.now being the spokesman for the team does this mean mill has lost the plot and can no longer stand the pressure of speaking to the the fans of york city football club..hes got no bottle after all when things go wrong like they have this season..time to get rid of him and some of the under performing players we have here..and bring in someone who knows this league to sort things out for next season.hopefuly we can find a couple of tall strikers for next season..walker can't play along side anyone..for me hes not much good upfront on his own..so whats the point in playing him week in week out.

HOBC - Pity he's unavailable today, but wen Dave's fit, he should play. He proved that he's still got it when he eventually got a few games under his belt.

The management team certainly have a level of responsibility that's for sure. Without going over old ground too much we can't keep a clean sheet because the defence was not strengthened in the summer, and we would have put more chances away with that striker that was also not signed in the summer. You can't go blaming defeats on a miss by a centre half playing left back.

a very thinly veiled way of saying we are not going to change our formation no matter what, very big of the management team to admit that just maybe they bear some responsibility.finge
rs crossed for today.

4-0 switched off radio York, cant listen anymore, been to most home games since 1967, and to more away games than I can remember. We are in deep trouble, if anyone says we could have had a goal or two if we had put away our chances i will scream. We are heading for a relegation battle and on present form going to lose out.
Please no happy clampers saying in Mills we trust, he clearly along with his management team have no idea, thanks Gary but move on before we find ourselves back in non league again.

Trouble indeed ,3 shots on goal one on target (89 mins) , how can it get worse without Mills ?
When are the Mcgills going to comment on our poor form ?

Blair and walker are a joke now,too much sentiment from last season for comfort.
Hope it snows and the Gills game is off, at least that would be a good result

Mills should give the York fans who made the trip their money back after this s***.

er Daz the cat please explain your definition of really sliding down the table. All the posters who have stated it would be expensive to get rid of G.M are correct but what is going to be the cost of keeping him and heading back to the conference.Damm i wouldnt ever want to see us need to sack a manager but its his total insistence that he.s right and everyone else is wrong that gets me,the fact that he was one of Cloughies boys has often been referred to,sadly even that great man had one weakness, being very capable of being pigheaded only he was miles better at everything else than G.M or anyone else for that matter.

The fact is we are too powder -puff upfront, dont play the right tactics-
and we should have had better players brought in at the START of the season.
Problem is lack of money. The Mc Gills
are doing a great job. But unless some
multi-million sugar daddy comes in, then
we are going to be stuck in a relegation
battle. And we may end up back in the poxy conference

The team have really done a number on me today but I stand by what I say, kneejerk reactions are risky. For the resources available to us i think mid table is a good place to be. We were there a couple of weeks ago but we've had a couple of poor results.

There's no guarantees we'll get someone better in and to be fair we've only been completely outclassed on a couple of occasions in the league this season.

how many Everton fans do you think we're calling for David Moyes head in that season early on when they nearly got relegated? He turned it around and I believe Mills will

Went to the game today and have to say that Wycombe were lucky with the two penalties. Even their supporters didn't know why the second was given? But even so, they were a stronger and more physical team and the result was only ever going to go one way. Afraid half the team just are not up to this league. But isn't helped when the management insist on playing favourites players who really aren't up to it. By far the weakest player was Walker who disappeared for most of the game. Should not be playing IMO. Contributed nothing to the game at all and missed a sitter, when unmarked and an open goal! Half time McLaughlin who had a good first half was subbed instead of Walker. Why? Needed all out strong battlers left on the pitch?! Blair had a good game and showed lots if commitment and Rodman looked strong and committed up front when brought on. In fact all the subs, Rodman, Chambers and McDaid looked good and showed a lot more commitment. Buy pitty they weren't played till the game was lost?
Bottom line, we need to dump Walker and any in affective players (we know who they are) and play our strongest team from the start.
Might just give us a fighting chance in the future? Things will definitely have to change or well be rolled over by teams like Wycombe and Oxford next week.

GUYS - Look on the brightside at least our games will be cheaper next season and we might be able to start attracting more crowds too in the conference! pmsl, I shouldn't laugh but I have been saying it for months. It is a nervous laugh really. Mills made the players walk to the ground as punishment for last week and we get a worst result.
Clearly he has no idea on what to do and Gee is taking over with the media. Get rid McGills before all that money and effort of getting to the promised land is undone by a management team hat proved very lucky last season!
The team should have been given to Christmas to prove their league worth and then got rid of dead wood. But funny old thing nobody wants our dead wood because they all knew what Mills should have done before he brought them in!
IN MILLS WE DONT TRUST!!!

I have said it before you need a stonewall four at the back two in midfield that can hold the ball, then a six ft plus centre foreward and fast wingers that can swing the ball over land it on a sixpence (ie the c,f,head) sod this 442,433 ,all that modern so called rubbish, managers and coaches are obcessed with teaching manuals ,half the time they dont know what there talking about, certainly the players dont,
foofball is a easy game ,its these stupid, stereotype clip board idiots that
mess the game up.
if this clip board nonsence was so great how come England have won
NOTHING since 1966?

Well im in two minds now before i would say stick with it and it will come right, but now not so sure. We just dont have a back up plan and why cant we play two formations start off 443 then if were in trouble go to 442 or other way around..I think thet injuries and transfer window came to late in the sense that player we brought in have not got into the patten of play as we keep persisting with 433 and i know about the budget would are they the quality we need right now? And is millsy pigheaded to change it for hopefully the better? How long does it go ion before some has to give? Its obviously not good at the moment conceading 8 and only scoring 1 last two games and were like 7 points from bottom these are worrying times at the cresent

Last March's youth selection a farce, few lads deserved, few not, I reckon happy notes must have been flying for a certain few to get in. Lad I know, not selected, his team scored 7 0 other week,he scored two and set up three. He would have changed the game for 1st team yesterday. No more than schoolboy football they played yesterday. Management at city no chance

I actually have no preference berryjack5on. If the players are good enough to play the 4-3-3 system it can be very succesful as last term showed. At the moment it seams we need to win 'ugly' at any cost's and not try and go for the entertaining football of the last few years. It isn't getting us the point's we so desperately need is it.

Gary Mills is also being let own by players who last year were the squad stars. Jason Walker and Matty Blair are two of the main culprits.
