GARY MILLS confirmed he will be looking to strengthen his York City team in the New Year – but admitted some members of his squad may need to move on if he is to get his targets.
Depending on how the Minstermen fare over the Christmas period, the opening of the January transfer window could be a key time in the club’s bid to reach the end of season play-offs.
Mills has his eyes on certain players but, given the cash constraints he must operate under, he said he would have to “wheel and deal” if he was to achieve his ambitions.
“My budget situation is there would have to be a couple going out again to get the right one or two in,” he said. “That’s where we are at York City. It’s not just a situation where I can go and pick three or four players because the money is there to do it. It’s not.
“I have to wheel and deal – as in getting players out on loan or moving on permanently.
“Yes, I would like to make a couple of changes. Yes, I would like to strengthen us. In finding those couple of players, there are players on the radar that we talk about and we watch.
“If I can bring them in, they will improve us. So we just have to see whether that is possible.”
