Gary Mills looks to strengthen York City team
10:59am Saturday 22nd December 2012 in News
By Steve Carroll, Sports reporter
York City boss Gary Mills
GARY MILLS confirmed he will be looking to strengthen his York City team in the New Year – but admitted some members of his squad may need to move on if he is to get his targets.
Depending on how the Minstermen fare over the Christmas period, the opening of the January transfer window could be a key time in the club’s bid to reach the end of season play-offs.
Mills has his eyes on certain players but, given the cash constraints he must operate under, he said he would have to “wheel and deal” if he was to achieve his ambitions.
“My budget situation is there would have to be a couple going out again to get the right one or two in,” he said. “That’s where we are at York City. It’s not just a situation where I can go and pick three or four players because the money is there to do it. It’s not.
“I have to wheel and deal – as in getting players out on loan or moving on permanently.
“Yes, I would like to make a couple of changes. Yes, I would like to strengthen us. In finding those couple of players, there are players on the radar that we talk about and we watch.
“If I can bring them in, they will improve us. So we just have to see whether that is possible.”

All i want for Christmas is to see Jamille Matt playing in a City shirt.

Agreed that will be a touch more than 2 months ago now that they are on such a good run, but surely a club in finance difficulties cant turned down an half decent offer from a football league club. Maybe we could offer Reed in return that would be ideal for both clubs. Possible?

Not even really convinced we need a new striker, a 'target man' type wouldn't suit the way we play. A fast paced, quick footed proven center forward would be good though.

Mind you can't see how we're going to improve on the powerhouse midfield of Smith, Bullock and Bopp, and who is going to force their way into our prolific front line ahead of Johnson, Dobie and Rodman?
I know it's tough Gary, but I'm sure you can find suitable candidates!!

Looking forward to more wise signings in the 'window'.
