YORK City’s youth team were knocked off top spot after a 5-0 defeat at new leaders Hull City in the Football League Youth Alliance North East Conference, writes Ben Middleton.
The Minstermites are now joint-second with Doncaster Rovers after suffering only their second defeat in 11 games this season.
The visitors came under pressure from the kick off but gave as good as they got in an end-to-end opening 20 minutes.
However, the Tigers took the lead against the run of play with a well worked goal.
The lead was doubled when a free-kick from the edge of the box took an unfortunate bounce in front of ’keeper Josh Archer and fell to a Hull player’s feet.
Jordan Outerbridge fired a good ball across the box, but Chris Banks’ shot was blocked.
After the break, York forced the home ’keeper into some good saves but vital mistakes allowed Hull to add three more goals, even though the game was closer than the 5-0 scoreline suggested.
