ROAD-STUNNERS York City can ride high in the Vale today declared veteran shot-stopper Paul Musselwhite.

The City goalkeeping coach headed to the Vale Park home of Port Vale, where he spent eight years as the last man standing in a long career now spanning more than two decades.

Musselwhite and his City team-mates go to Vale lodged in a rut of five games without a win, but the evergreen gloves-man is confident his side can prevail over the Valiants backed by the hush factor.

Said Musselwhite: “Port Vale have started really well and at one stage were League Two’s highest scorers.

“But while we might not have the results we deserved over the last few games, apart from the defeat last Saturday at home to Wimbledon, we have played fairly well.

“We can go there today and give them a good game and there’s no reason with our great away form why we cannot return with a win.”

The secret to City success in the Potteries this afternoon could well hinge on how the hone crowd reacts, he said.

Added the 43-year-old Musselwhite, who is expected to be on the bench as number two to Michael Ingham today: “The Port Vale crowd can be very boisterous and get behind their team from the start. But if things don’t go so well they can quickly turn. That could be the key. The longer we can keep the crowd quiet that will probably help us.”
