Hush-hush is key to Minstermen success in Potteries

York goalkeeper Paul Musselwhite York goalkeeper Paul Musselwhite

ROAD-STUNNERS York City can ride high in the Vale today declared veteran shot-stopper Paul Musselwhite.

The City goalkeeping coach headed to the Vale Park home of Port Vale, where he spent eight years as the last man standing in a long career now spanning more than two decades.

Musselwhite and his City team-mates go to Vale lodged in a rut of five games without a win, but the evergreen gloves-man is confident his side can prevail over the Valiants backed by the hush factor.

Said Musselwhite: “Port Vale have started really well and at one stage were League Two’s highest scorers.

“But while we might not have the results we deserved over the last few games, apart from the defeat last Saturday at home to Wimbledon, we have played fairly well.

“We can go there today and give them a good game and there’s no reason with our great away form why we cannot return with a win.”

The secret to City success in the Potteries this afternoon could well hinge on how the hone crowd reacts, he said.

Added the 43-year-old Musselwhite, who is expected to be on the bench as number two to Michael Ingham today: “The Port Vale crowd can be very boisterous and get behind their team from the start. But if things don’t go so well they can quickly turn. That could be the key. The longer we can keep the crowd quiet that will probably help us.”

This is maybe one of the poorest pieces of nothing news I have seen in a long time. An interesting take, but a few of the sentences don't make a lot of sense and coupled with the odd typo I am none the wiser.

Still, at least the tag line isn't " HAILS

Currently it doesn't seem that we will get owt out of the game, if Mills insists on playing an unfit Rodman and Blair in the middle we will get thumped.

Great comeback from City after being 2-0 down.Reedy scored and had an assist for Rodman, goal.GM can be proud tonight! This was a " massive" point.

Now this is actually a point that we can be proud of! Rather than a 'good' point against Northampton according to Mills. Vale was always going to be a tough one with their scoring record. Reedy saves the day again! Hope this keeps him in the team!

A superb display today, very unlucky to be 2-0 down at half time. Disappointed to have only got the draw to be honest, we outplayed them in every position. A bit concerned that we tried to cross our way back into the game when we didn't have any height in the box and they had a giant marking Reedy! However, the constant pressure turned into two goals (couldn't see if they were any good because of the goal net), and it was nothing more than we deserved. Thought Challinor coming on changed the balance of the team for the better, offered more cover for Banjo and allowed Blair to attack down the wing. Smith was superb and his commitment with two great blocks demonstrated it. Same again next game please!

Another never-say-die effort from the players today. They fully deserved the point and seemed to be in control of the game for long periods. They certainly had more corners than their opponents (I lost count) and probably had more possession, though I haven't seen the stats. Nobody had a bad game and Gary Mills made a point of coming over to join in the celebrations at the end. Now lets turn all of this into a victory next week.

Good team performance today well done lads!
Anybody know what the issue is with Clark Carlisle? Millsy said he was left out for reasons we will find out in the week!!!

A great come back today. Didn't deserve to be 2 down at half time. Challinor on for Chambers was the turning point. Great last ditch defending at the end to get a well deserved pint.

Great result for City today......the stats say it all.....City had 67% possession and clearly should have won. Challinor coming on as sub for Ash changed the game. Well done Mills

Challinor did well but it was Banjo moving into midfield that changed the game. He added steel in the middle and drove forward at every opportunity. It allowed Blairy to move out wide from being ineffective in central midfield.

Sounds like Clarke is on his way out by the sound of Mills' interview. Wonder if all this racism in football business is taking up too much of his time to be able to commit 100%?

An excellent point and it must have felt like a win to equalise so late on.

We go to a strong side, second in the table and get something which will have a huge impact on morale.

Lets hope we can get a long overdue 3 points at home on Saturday - we're not asking the team to move mountains, just a few more home points would be nice.

Another fine away performance and great contribution from Reedy. Now we must start winning at home but if Reedy gets a prolonged run in the side there's no reason why we can't start finding the net more often.

How good were those last ditch blocks by Smith and Doig when it seemed Vale had to score at the death? In fact, that was the only time in the whole game when they dominated us. The quotes in the FLP today from Mr.Adams were very accurate when he said his team didnt deserve to win and that City were excellent from start to finish.
Other posts have got it dead right : it was Challinors performance as sub at RB and the effect that he had on the shape of the team that made the difference. Suddenly pace from midfield and down the flanks and more incisive around the box. I also liked Rodman's directness and his desire to fire in a shot or two. We played it around very well all game but didnt test their keeper enough. Word was that Smith is now suspended after the yellow?? If so. lets hope Carlisle is stll about for a while yet. More importantly,Mansell the Torquay skipper and driving force got a red yesterday.
Superb support from fans yesterday certainly must have helped lift the team, when a 2v0 deficit was a travesty.

I also think Doig's inclusion was highly influential too. It allowed Smith to move back to right centre half so both he and Doig looked very comfortable building and retaining possession from the back. We rarely gave it away and the back four set the standard for a return to our passing game.

That should say back five as Inghy looked to play it short whenever possible too.

Really good performance. 67% possession at the 2nd in League says it all.

We need to make corners count - work needed there. Otherwise its just a case of a bit more muscle, as highlighted by Banjo when he went to midfield. Looked a dodgy pen but hard to say from that distance. Vale v poor for 2nd place. Listened to Radio Stoke on way home - Vale supporters didn't give City the credit but at least Micky Adams did - good, fair interview with him. Doig did well, especially in possession. Good footballer. Reed top notch - best I've seen him at this level (which is not much!). Rodders did well too.

Nice to hear Vale fans shout Mussy's name.

Felt like a win. Well done lads!!
