YORK City won an amazing penalty shoot-out 13-12 against Kidderminster to reach the last eight of the FA Trophy.

The Minstermen will now play the winners of Monday’s third round clash between Havant and Waterlooville and Crawley a week on Saturday.

All 22 players scored their initital spot-kicks before Mark Robinson and Simon Rusk both converted again, as did Kidderminster’s Daryl Knights, before goalkeeper Michael Ingham saved from Justin Richards.

Daniel McBreen had earlier given City a 74th-minute lead in the third round replay only for Richards to level soon after.

City manager Martin Foyle recalled skipper Mark Greaves and teenager Andy McWilliams, but defenders Ben Purkiss and David McGurk remained sidelined.

Greaves lined up in the centre of defence with Kyle Critchell switching to right-back and Simon Rusk returning to midfield.

The Minstermen started brightly with McBreen heading high and wide from a Rusk corner.

On 15 minutes, great work by Rusk saw him win possession on the edge of his own box before releasing Adam Boyes for a run on goal at the other end of the pitch but the 18-year-old striker’s low shot failed to stretch Bartlett.

David McDermott then fired wide of Ingham’s near post from 20 yards and, moments later, Greaves limped out of the action.

Simon Russell was introduced with Rusk dropping to right-back and Critchell moving back inside to partner Danny Parslow.

Kidderminster’s Richards went close on 27 minutes with an edge-of-the-box effort that drifted narrowly wide.

City finished the half in the ascendancy but McBreen’s header lacked the power to beat Adam Bartlett from a Richard Brodie cross and Boyes prodded wide.

Impressive footwork and a threaded through ball by Mackin created an early second-half opportunity for Brodie but two heavy touches from him saw the one-on-one chance go begging.

Brodie saw a 25-yard shot deflected wide on 55 minutes and Russell then headed over from eight yards.

Kidderminster boss Mark Yates made a double substitution on 63 minutes and, shortly afterwards, Brittain flashed the visitors’ first shot of the half wide.

It was City, though, who made the breakthrough on 74 minutes. Rusk worked a one-two down the right with Brodie and then sent over a perfect cross into the six-yard box that McBreen headed against Bartlett’s right-hand post.

But the Australian striker reacted the quickest to drive into the opposite corner from close range.

Brodie and Russell then went close to doubling the home side’s lead before Richards levelled the tie with a terrific strike on 79 minutes – Kidderminster’s first on-target attempt of the night.

The former Woking striker curled a 25-yard effort beyond Ingham and into the City ’keeper’s top right-hand corner.

Brodie and Boyes both missed great injury-time chances to win the tie in normal time.

The former headed wide with the goal at his mercy following a cross by Boyes, who then shot straight at Bartlett after being put clear by Rusk.

Ingham pushed a Martin Brittain free-kick around his right-hand post at the end of the first period of half-time.

Harriers substitute Brian Smikle went close to winning the tie in the second period of extra time, cutting in from the right before flashing a shot wide.

City replacement Onome Sodje then drove at Bartlett at the death.
