Woolford cranks up the player of the year pressure

MARTYN Woolford has regained the initiative in the race to be crowned Press Player of the Year.

Back-to-back, man-of-the-match performances against Crawley and Stafford saw Woolford pick up a maximum six-point haul towards the contest, lifting him above nearest rival David McGurk in the ding-dong battle for this season's award.

Other players to be rewarded for their efforts during the 6-1 drubbing at Crawley were Darren Craddock (two points) and Stuart Elliott (one) as our second and third-highest rated players in the worst game of the season.

Elliott (two) and Richard Brodie (one) also picked up points in the morale-boosting 4-0 win at Stafford.

The two Player of the Month bonus points on offer to the player that polled most man-of-the-match votes from visitors to our website went to Woolford at Crawley and Brodie against Stafford.

Woolford also leads those standings with five games left to play.
