ASHLEY Chambers is the early leader in The Press Player of the Month and Player of the Year standings.

The former Leicester winger was our man of the match during the first league game of the season against Northampton to earn three points towards both competitions.

Chambers then followed that up with another point as The Press’ third-highest rated player during Tuesday’s 4-0 Capital One Cup defeat to Burnley.

The Press man-of-the-match David McGurk (three) and our second-highest rated player Chris Smith (two) took the other points on offer from that game.

In the 1-0 win over Northampton, Craig Clay (two) and Lanre Oyebanjo (one) also picked up points.

Chambers, meanwhile, received the two Player of the Month bonus points for polling the most man-of-the-match votes for the Northampton game from The Press readers. He shared that honour with Jamal Fyfield following the Burnley match.
