YORK City's six summer signings will all be on show during tonight's opening pre-season friendly at Gainsborough Trinity.

David McGurk, Darren Craddock, Ross Greenwood, Anthony Lloyd, Stephen Bowey and Craig Farrell have all been named in Billy McEwan's squad for the Northolme clash.

City will also include trialist goalkeeper Tommy Evans and four other unnamed players that McEwan wants to run the rule over against the Conference North club.

But last season's skipper, Manny Panther, is unlikely to be risked against the Lincolnshire outfit after suffering a minor strain in training.

Minstermen boss McEwan said: "Panther hasn't trained for two days and, if there's any doubt about him, he won't play."

City's last trip to Gainsborough ended in a 4-0 victory in an FA Cup fourth qualifying round tie last season.

Former KitKat Crescent striker Ryan Mallon also moved to Trinity in the New Year, going on to score eight goals in 24 appearances.

Mallon was on target from the penalty spot in Monday's 3-1 victory against a strong Lincoln City side and Gainsborough also pushed another League Two outfit Grimsby Town close before succumbing 1-0.

About tonight's meeting, McEwan said: "The main purpose is to get match fitness. We have been training for more than three weeks but, even if you do all the training in the world, matches offer a different type of training and we need to have a look at some trialists.

"They are a decent side who will give us a good workout for our first pre-season game. We have got a good relationship with their manager, they are not too far away and it's a nice playing surface.

"The pitch was probably the most important thing and they are nice and friendly people as well."

Tonight's match kicks off at 7.30pm.

City follow up tonight's trip to Gainsborough with a home clash on Tuesday night against Middlesbrough.

The Premiership club's reserve coach and former City midfielder, Malcolm Crosby, is expected to bring several players with first-team experience for the KitKat Crescent clash.

City travel to UniBond League division one outfit Stocksbridge Park Steels 24 hours later and entertain League Two neighbours Darlington next Friday (July 28).

The Minstermen are due to complete their pre-season programme with a home match against a Leeds United XI on Tuesday, August 1 with the Conference season kicking off 11 days later.

City squad (at Gainsborough Trinity): Evans, McGurk, Craddock, Peat, Greenwood, Lloyd, Hollingsworth, Dudgeon, Convery, Bishop, Bowey, Webster, Farrell, Donaldson, plus four trialists.
