YORK City caretaker manager Andy Porter has admitted he has a great selection headache ahead of tomorrow’s Blue Square Bet Premier clash at Eastbourne Borough.

Porter has current Press Player of the Year leader Alex Lawless back from serving a one-match suspension but Peter Till, who was unfortunate to lose his place on the right flank against Tamworth last weekend, proved a dangerous presence on the wing for City during Monday’s 0-0 home draw with Darlington.

With Till also able to operate on the left, he could in turn challenge Jamal Fyfield for a starting place and Porter was considering all options as he boarded the coach today for an overnight stay in Sussex.

The stand-in City chief said: “Alex being available again is a great headache to have so we will have to sit down and go through things. We will have a training session at Three Bridges Football Club today before deciding what to do.

“Peter Till had done well for us but I felt at Mansfield we looked a bit open and chose to go with four midfield players at Tamworth.

“In home games, though, you might want to go for it and be more exciting.”

Eastbourne’s Priory Lane ground provided the scene for two of City’s poorest performances under previous manager Martin Foyle with the visitors suffering 3-1 and 2-1 defeats on their last two trips to the coastal part-timers.

Porter is hoping that playing the fixture earlier in the campaign could help City turn in a better display this time around, saying: “Every time we have gone there we haven’t done well and the pitch hasn’t helped on either occasion.

“The first year we went it was sandy and muddy in January and just doing the warm-up was difficult.

“Last season, in April, it was a nightmare getting the ball down but sometimes you have to play the conditions.

“Fingers crossed, it should be better at this time of the year.”

The long-term injured trio of midfield duo Levi Mackin and Chris Carruthers and striker George Purcell remain sidelined, but central defender Djoumin Sangare is back in contention after recovering from his groin problem.

“Jimmy will be travelling with us,” Porter confirmed.

“He has made slow progress and has joined in with training this week.”

Porter has also singled out former City striker Richard Pacquette, who has already netted six times for the Sports this season, as a danger-man keen to make an impact against his old team.

“Ritchie is flying at the moment and will be out to prove a point,” Porter warned.

“He’s a lovely, down-to-earth lad who was unlucky here.

“He got suspended and injured early on and it was a bit like that throughout last season.

“He had to wait his turn behind the likes of Richard Brodie, Michael Gash and Michael Rankine and didn’t get that many opportunities.

“At the end of the season, we just felt all four of them were a bit similar and that we needed to get someone out to get another body.

“But he will be a danger-man for Eastbourne, along with the other players in their front four.

“He’s their target man and they like playing into him but we have got to look to keep another clean sheet and be aggressive enough to finish a few at the other end.”

Porter has held no further discussions with chairman Jason McGill on the club’s managerial vacancy but is still interested in becoming Foyle’s permanent successor.

Declared Porter: “My views on the job haven’t changed.

“It was sad to see Foyley go but I’ve got to get on with my own career now.”

• The Harrogate Minstermen are running a coach to Eastbourne tomorrow and will pick up and drop off in York if required.
