KitKat signs removed from York City's Bootham Crescent ground

IT’S a sign of the times at York City as the club’s home reverts to its old name.

The Minstermen will once again be playing at Bootham Crescent rather than KitKat Crescent following the end of their four-year sponsorship deal with chocolate giants Nestlé, which netted the club £200,000.

Signs displaying the sponsored name of the ground were yesterday taken down from stands inside the ground. The sign at the main entrance was due to be taken down today, and the KitKat branding will also be removed from the stadium’s family room. Supporters are set to be canvassed about a new guise for club mascot Yorkie the Lion, whose name was also part of the Nestlé deal, at the end of the season.

Sophie Hicks, City’s communications and community director, said: “We are hoping to secure a new sponsorship deal for the ground’s naming rights in about June.

“I think our supporters appreciate it is vitally important to get this additional income to support our on-pitch ambitions.”

How about Galloway Stadium? He could do with a bit of publicity!!!!!

although it's great to have bootham crescent back for nostalgia sake we all realise the naming rights will be sold off ASAP to the highest bidder. if this is not to be until next season then it may be a nice touch and also give the club some decent PR to name the ground after a local charity for the remainder of the season?

Naive of me, I know, but why not the Keith Walwyn Stadium?

I understand that City need the money... but I'd rather see the ground stay as Bootham Crescent. Football is commercial enough as it is, Bootham Crescent is a part of York City history and we shouldn't sell it's name cheap.

Beacuse no-one is going to pay £50k p.a. to call it that.

I'd put a decent sum of money on a deal already having been done for the summer.

It's no secret that the club is already negotiating with a prospective sponsor.
`
Whatever it's called, the huge majority of supporters will continue to refer to it as Bootham Crescent, just as we did during the years that the media called it KitKat Crescent.

After we have put up with the name "Kit Kat Crescent" for four years. Anything will seem acceptable.

Who cares what THEY call it as long as it brings in good money for the club. It is and has always been Bootham Cresent to us supports.

I completely agree PDH, the money we get for naming rights is essential for York to get out of this **** league.

OK, but as it's your idea, you can make the new sign.

It's Bootham Crescent. Any commercial group who want to spend money step up and give us your dosh, but it's still BC. I really don't believe that this -even in our financial situation- should be up for sale. I'm skint but I'm still not Mr Tesco Value Range. Mind you -if they want to bung me a few grand I might be .. uuh-oh damaging my own argument here.

PS How about naming it after a famous player who likes to enjoy success, have fun and beat everything -even teammates - whatever the consequence? We could do this if we relocate to the old Terrys site!

Exactly PDH. It could be called the Donald Duck Stadium for all I care.

As long as the club gets some vital revenue from it, so what. It will ALWAYS be Bootham Crescent to me and the vast majority of supporters.

That 'Bootham' sign looks rubbish in the picture !

Hope its gonna be re-covered soon !

In fairness, Ian, the fans wanted the Kit Kat signs down asap and the club did that. Given a new sponsorship deal is likely in June, its daft to pay for two lots of proper signwriting jobs. The club can't afford to throw money away - its not the council y'know!
Agree with PDH - don't care what the ground is allegedly named, its Bootham Crescent to us and the money is always welcome.
