York City Trophy tie is all pay at turnstiles

First published in York City FC

IT’S pay at the turnstiles for York City fans at the FA Trophy quarter-final tie at home to Havant & Waterlooville on Saturday.

Advance tickets will not be on sale for the tie, for which all normal Blue Square Premier prices will apply.

Season ticket holders will be able to use their usual seats.

Should the tie be drawn the replay will be at Westleigh Park on Wednesday, February 25 (7.45pm).

The Blue Square Premier fixture against Oxford United originally scheduled for this Saturday, will now be rearranged.

Ebbsfleet United’s plea to have their Blue Square Premier clash at home to City put back 24 hours to Sunday, March 8 is now being considered by the league’s fixtures sub-committee.

City originally refused the Fleet’s request to move the game at Stonebridge Lane from its scheduled Saturday date to the day after on the grounds that Minstermen fans had already made travel arrangements.

Even before City’s rejection, Ebbsfleet had flagged news on their own club website that the game had been switched.

Ebbsfleet, who are seeking the move to aid their Setanta Shield campaign, referred the request to the Blue Square Premier’s governing body for a final decision.

Meanwhile, City reserves yielded two goals in the last three minutes to lose 2-1 at Grimsby in the totesport.com league.

City’s scorer was trialist Jerome Wright. Two other trialists figured for City – defender Shaun Pejic, formerly of Wrexham, and Scunthorpe striker Peter Winn.

The reserves trip to Rotherham has been put back to avoid a clash with the rearranged Blue Square Premier game with Forest Green on Tuesday, April 21.

The reserves will travel to the Don Valley Stadium on Wednesday, April 22 (2pm).

If it's the Jerome Wright of FC United of Manchester 'fame', I've heard good friends from a regular supporter of theirs. He's a left winger who likes to beat his man. Passing and strike-rate good but a tendency to play with his head down and crossing occasionally let him down. But those are things that good coaching can easily iron out. An interesting one to take on trial, not least because of the conspicuous lack of a Welsh connection. Anyone know how Pejic and Winn played? Can't see what the latter would add...

"good friends" should read "good things from a friend who's". Must like the lad more than I realised!

I think M.F should try and get michael proctor in on loan for a short spell. He was a great player for us when we were in division 3 and knew where the goal was. He doesn't seem to be getting a game at Wrexham and i think he is worth a try. Sodje seems to have lost the plot he runs around like a headless chicken.

Proctor was a great player for us however he will be on good money at Wrexham, so that will be an issue as to whether we can pay 50% or less of his wages.

Secondly, he has hardly played all season, which suggests he isn't up to Blue Square Premier standard anymore. He has also had serious injuries aswell over the past few years and the fact that nobody else has signed him probably means that he just isn't good enough anymore.

Undoubtedly he was great in his time with City but I think signing Proctor would be a huge gamble at the moment.

Pejic sounds like he would give us good defensive cover for McGurk (who hopefully is nearly back to fitness?) with Kelly, Greaves and Purkiss also sidelined. Maybe we could sign him on a pay as you play until the end of the season.. this would give him a chance to prove his worth and would also be good for the club.

Like the fact that Martin seems to be after wingers, if Winn has learnt anything off Woolford at Scunthorpe, he would be a great loan signing, the FC United winger sounds promising aswell.

Why should we have to pay full price to watch this load of old drivel? You can get in at Barcelona for cheaper than York. McGill are you Galloway's long lost twin?

Pejic struggled to ever get a settled run in Wrexham's first team, though he's meant to be useful enough. I reckon a move to us might spare him signing on with a League of Wales club.

We're beginning to take so much from Wrexham I reckon we could be wearing their current kit next season. As for Proctor, his wages are expensive and he's got no pace.

And why is it York fans always want to sign back players? Everyone thought McBreen would be fantastic and now no-one's bothered to see him go.

Winn played at left back and looked quite solid. Pejic rhs centre overall looked reasonably solid although one or two wild swipes at the ball when under pressure.Wright had lots of pace and looked quite direct.

Alan Fetish - Winn is a very highly rated left-winger who would be available on loan now. This would be very useful for the squad.

AdHolmes - I'm afraid I agree with everyone else on Proctor. His day is long, long gone.

Cityforthecup - The problem with matches like this is, they attract a lower crowd yet carry the same expenses. The club runs the risk of making a loss anyway. If they drop prices, that becomes a certain, and substantial, loss. Which they can't afford.

Romfordpele - Entirely agree about the obsession with former players. Back in summer I said McBreen would not be a good choice and was met with substantial abuse.

Imp - when we played Northwich away a couple of months ago Winn was distinctly average. I was at the game and he missed an absolute sitter that came back off the post. In fact, it's since become one of my YCFC youtube moments of last year. Although that's more down to how slender the positive pickings are. Anyway, his performance that night could well have been more to do with how bad the team around him were, so I'll give him the benfit of the doubt, but won't hold my breath...

The Northwich fans are generally very complimentary about him, and the Scunny fans and coaching staff all rate him very highly. Everyone is allowed the odd bad game.
