CPP have donated a substantial five-figure sum to continue as the main sponsor of York City’s community programme for the next 12 months.
The gesture by the life assurance company, whose York base is in Holgate Park, will allow the Minstermen to fulfil their aim of working with more than 70 schools during the coming season.
Since launching their in-house community scheme in February 2007, City have provided free football coaching to local schools and after-school clubs while promoting the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
About the sponsorship extension, CPP’s UK managing director Stephen Kennedy said: “As one of the major employers in York, we are devoted to the development of sport and education programmes for young people in York.
“This sponsorship allows York City to further develop their excellent community programme and we are proud to continue our support to help make a difference to the York community.”
City’s community staff also run football fun camps in the school holidays and distribute 250 free tickets to schools and community organisations for first-team matches.
CPP, meanwhile, will continue to be involved in the community programme’s annual disabled football tournament, a matchday mascot competition for CPP employees and the popular Challenge Cup, which is contested by local primary schoolchildren on the KitKat Crescent pitch.
City’s community and communications director Sophie McGill said: “We are delighted CPP has chosen to continue their support of our community programme. We’ve really enjoyed working with CPP over the past year and together we have made a really positive impact in the local community through all our football initiatives.
“Our aim is to continue delivering a programme which is totally inclusive and encourages people of all abilities and social backgrounds to get involved in football and sporting activities. The tremendous continued support we have received from CPP will help us achieve our community vision.
“We are particularly excited about the continuation of the CPP Challenge Cup, which was a great success last season and saw more than 150 local children get the opportunity to play on the KitKat Crescent pitch.”
Danny Parslow, City’s Community Player of the Year, also welcomed CPP’s continued support.
He said: “I’ve seen a lot of the work our community team do around the schools and all the kids love it. It’s great to see the smiles on their faces.”
