SPENNYMOOR Town will arrive at York City’s Bootham Crescent stadium tomorrow, having matched their hosts’ run of winning their last five matches.

That sequence includes a 5-3 penalty shoot-out FA Trophy triumph over Gainsborough Trinity after the score had finished 4-4 following extra-time.

But, otherwise, Jason Ainsley’s men beat National League side Solihull Moors 2-0 at home in the same competition last weekend, while a 2-1 win at Bradford Park Avenue, followed six points from their festive double-header against play-off rivals Blyth Spartans, who they defeated 3-1 on their own soil and 3-2 away.

Averaging exactly three goals a game during their current winning spell, the fifth-placed Moors have found little trouble finding the net all term, having only failed to score in two of their 28 league and cup fixtures - during a 4-0 mid-November defeat at Leamington and a 2-0 loss at Brackley Town back in August.

Glen Taylor is Town’s top marksman on 15 goals and he has found the net five times in his last seven outings.

The 27-year-old striker is a former FA Vase winner with Whitley Bay and also scored more than a century of goals for Ashington.

He is now in his third season at Brewery Field and his 19 goals during last season’s promotion-winning campaign secured him a place over the summer in the Jamie Vardy Academy, which aims to discover non-League talent and promote students to the professional game.

Aside from Taylor, Spennymoor also have Mark Anderson (eight goals), David Foley (seven) and Andrew Johnson (seven) targeting double figures this season.

But former on-loan City striker Bradley Fewster, who joined the north-east outfit at the end of August following his release by Middlesbrough last summer, is yet to open his account for the club and has largely been restricted to substitute outings.

Ex-City midfielder Matty Dixon, meanwhile, might join 21-year-old Fewster on the bench against the pair’s old team.

Dixon was left out of Spennymoor’s starting XI against Solihull after also filling in at full-back recently,

Ainsley has a fully-fit squad to choose from, but midfielder Johnson will be pressing for a start after coming off the bench and scoring the second goal in Saturday’s Trophy win.
