YORK City Ladies moved off the bottom of the North East Regional Women's League

premier division table after their first victory of the season.

The Minsterbelles went into the game at home to Castleford White Rose having lost their previous five games, but this time they triumphed 5-2.

Alice Turner, who was promoted into City's senior ranks at the start of the campaign, struck twice, while in-form fellow forward Ellie Regan claimed her third goal in four games.

Skipper Kayleigh Davis and last season's leading goalscorer Megan Bramham were also on target, with Josie Hewson, who has recently rejoined the team, named as player of the match.

The visitors' two goals arrived after the break from Lauren Breen and Lacey Lewis, but they paid for a poor opening 45 minutes.

As a result of their welcome triumph, City Ladies moved above both Castleford and Wakefield in the table, and they face an immediate rematch with the former this weekend, before then taking on unbeaten Norton & Stockton Ancients at home.
