YORK City's build-up to the new campaign continued this evening with a 9-0 drubbing of Oakham United.

With only this weekend's visit of Notts County to come before the season kicks off on Saturday, August 5, tonight's friendly in Rutland was an opportunity to fine-tune City's preparations.

The club's four-day training camp clearly paid dividends as Gary Mills' men raced into a 5-0 half-time lead against the United Counties League division one outfit.

It took just three minutes for Kaine Felix to open the scoring with Michael Rankine adding a penalty in the 18th minute and Josh Law on target from a free-kick shortly after the half hour mark.

Rankine netted again in the 36th minute before Connor Smith headed home the fifth shortly before the break.

The goal spree continued in the second period with Simon Heslop making it six before set piece king Law added another free-kick before the hour mark.

Jon Parkin joined the fun, off the bench, netting with 15 minutes remaining, and there was still time for fellow substitute Alex Whittle to get in on the act three minutes from time.

Worryingly though, the Minstermen kicked-off the friendly without a trio of attackers, with Amari Morgan-Smith, Louis Almond and Ryan Edmondson all ruled out.

A knee injury sustained in training saw Morgan-Smith sit out the clash, while Almond – who also missed Saturday's victory over Grantham Town – joined him on the sidelines with a similar complaint.

Sixteen-year-old Edmondson continues to rest his groin – an injury sustained in the warm-up clash against Scunthorpe United.

CITY: Simpson, Law, Parslow, Moke, Newton, Smith, Felix, Rankine, Sukar, Muggleton, Wharton. Subs: Whittle, Bencherif, Heslop, Parkin.

* CITY'S National League North fixture at Bradford Park Avenue on Saturday, August 12 has been designated all-ticket by the hosts.

The Minstermen have been allocated 1,300 tickets for the clash at Horsfall Stadium, with tickets available for season ticket holders on Saturday and Sunday before going on general sale on Monday.
