THE FA Trophy final against Macclesfield must now represent the start of a new era of success at York City, according to manager Gary Mills.

Ex-double Wembley-winning City chief Mills, who lifted the Trophy under the world-famous arch with victory over Newport before going on to conquer Luton in the 2012 play-off final, wants the Sunday, May 21 contest against Macclesfield to provide the springboard for more happier times again at the beleaguered club.

He said: “We have a massive game at Wembley in three weeks’ time and this great group of players worked hard to deserve to get there, so I don’t want to hear any talk of not wanting to go to Wembley and this taking the shine off it. We are York City Football Club going to Wembley to try and beat Macclesfield and win a major trophy.

“Through all the hurt and emotions, we have to remember that and I can’t wait to go there to lead out these players, who have been immense for me, then prepare for a long, hard campaign next season to bring back some good times, because it’s not just about this season – this has been dragging on for a while. People must be absolutely worn out and emotionally drained but, like anything, that goes away and you go again, which we will do.”
