BEFORE last Tuesday’s disappointing York City game against Bromley, my group of City fans were in positive mood and enjoying reliving Jon Parkin’s wonder strike free-kick from the previous weekend.
The Press picture (above) of him and the other City players celebrating perfectly encapsulated the good and bad of this strange season.
Gary Mills has done what he does best and put together a small squad of 15 or 16 players who he trusts to work together to get us out of the mess he inherited (hence his often quoted wish to “put a smile on everyone’s faces”).
From the looks on the players’ faces you can tell that he and they are getting there, but just look at the squad numbers.
Jon Parkin is number 31 and the other four are also in their 30s. Along with stalwart Dan Parslow, that’s half a team that arrived mid-season.
Let’s hope it wasn’t too late. Still keeping the faith.
