YORK City drew their 13th game of the season after sharing the spoils 1-1 at Boreham Wood.

The Minstermen took an early lead through Amari Morgan-Smith’s fourth goal for the club, but Morgan Ferrier levelled with his 13th of the season before the half-hour mark.

City, as has been their recent habit, started brightly with Sean Newton slicing wide from 15 yards after Jon Parkin had pulled the ball back from the byline.

The visitors forged ahead from their next attack on seven minutes when Vadaine Oliver helped a high ball on with his head.

Morgan-Smith picked up the pieces and played the ball to Jon Parkin before ghosting into the penalty box, where he received the return pass unmarked and shot in low off Grant Smith’s right-hand post from eight yards.

Skipper Simon Heslop then had a great chance to double the Minstermen’s advantage after Oliver had won another aerial ball and Morgan-Smith picked out the midfielder’s charge through the right channel.

But Heslop shot early and fired across the face of goal.

The hosts went on to level with their only opportunity of the first half on 27 minutes.

Anthony Jeffrey sent in a chest-high cross from the left that was dropped by a tentative Kyle Letheren and Ferrier swooped to net from eight yards.

At the other end, Newton’s 25-yard drive flashed narrowly wide and Oliver drove into the sidenetting after being played through the right channel by Parkin.

In stoppage time before the break, another Newton pot-shot was parried by Smith at his near post after he was teed up by Oliver.

Hamza Bencherif headed over from Newton’s resulting corner.

After the break, Parkin hit the frame of the goal for the umpteenth time since his return to the club, thundering a ten-yard shot on the turn against the underside of the bar with Morgan-Smith hooking over from the rebound.

For Wood, Angelo Balanta’s 25-yard attempt was gathered low by Letheren, while Parkin volleyed wide from a Newton corner.

Parkin also hit a speculative effort wide from 35 yards after Balanta’s deflected, edge-of-the-box attempt was comfortably caught by Letheren.

As the game swung from end to end, Jeffery fired over after cutting in from the flank before Oliver’s spectacular overhead kick forced a fine save by Smith following Newton’s right-wing cross.

Bencherif then headed wide from a Heslop delivery before the lively Jeffrey hit the base of Smith’s right-hand post from 15 yards.

Further chances missed the target from Balanta and Jeffrey before the final whistle.
