SOME of York City’s under-performing North Riding Cup side have been banished to training with the youth team and will be shown the door at the earliest opportunity.

Unhappy boss Gary Mills labelled this week’s 3-1 quarter-final at the Evo-Stik Northern League premier division outfit a “disgrace” and the performance will act as the final straw for certain professionals’ careers at Bootham Crescent.

Matty Dixon, Scott Fenwick, Danny Galbraith, Robbie McDaid, Daniel Nti, Vadaine Oliver, Callum Rzonca, Luke Simpson, Tyler Walton and Luke Woodland, who all have first-team experience with the Minstermen, were all on duty at Whitby, with Mills fuming: “The performance that certain players produced was a disgrace and they will be leaving the club as soon as possible.

“If players don’t want to work hard, they won’t play for me. Unfortunately, they are under contract, but we’ve got to get them out of this club and they will train with Steve Torpey until that happens.”

But Mills will, for now, reserve his opinion on Oliver, who scored the consolation at the Turnbull Ground following his return from a half-season loan at Football League strugglers Notts County.

“He’s only been back for a couple of days and it was hard to judge him,” Mills reasoned. “I asked the players at half-time if they knew we had any strikers on the pitch, because the ball wasn’t going up to them.

“A few more balls then went up there. He’ll travel with us to Harlow and, then, it’s up to him.”

On the decision to part company this week with seven-goal, top marksman Richard Brodie, meanwhile, Mills added: “All managers like different players and he scored a few goals, so I wish him well.

“But, for me, even when I was at Gateshead, he’s never been a player I could see fitting into my team in terms of the way I want to play and progress.”
