NORTH Ferriby United will arrive at York City having failed to net in ten of their 14 away games during 2016/17.

The Villagers have only managed five goals on their travels this term, hitting the target once every 4.2 hours on average.

Only travelsick Burnley, with two top-flight away goals, boast a worse record in the top five tiers of English football, but they have played five fewer games on the road.

Ferriby are slightly more potent at home, but a tally of 13 league goals in total is still nine short of the next-lowest amount in the National League, which belongs to Wrexham.

In the four divisions above, meanwhile, only League One basement outfit Oldham are more toothless in attack with 12 league goals.

Bottom-of-the-table Ferriby are still only three points adrift of a place outside the relegation zone, however, thanks to a goals-against column of 38 that is better than almost a third of their National League rivals and the equal of sixth-placed, promotion hopefuls Dover.

Former City striker Reece Thompson is the team’s top marksman on four goals from 18 league games.

Ex-Rotherham midfielder Stephen Brogan, who was injured for Ferriby’s 1-0 Boxing Day home defeat against the Minstermen, is the next highest scorer on two – with one of those efforts coming from the penalty spot.

Twenty-year-old, on-loan striker Kyle Wootton, who netted on the opening day of the Sky Bet League One season for high-flying parent club Scunthorpe, has only managed one goal in 15 outings since his September switch to Grange Lane.

Veteran ex-City striker Darryn Stamp, now 38, added an aerial threat to Ferriby’s frontline when he was introduced against his old club after 68 minutes on Monday, but all three of the assistant manager’s appearances have come off the bench this term and he is not thought to be an option from the start.

Stamp, who made ten goal-less appearances for the Minstermen on loan from Stevenage in 2006/07, had spent five seasons with Gainsborough Trinity in National League North before following manager Steve Housham to Ferriby in the summer.

Ex-City winger Simon Russell will definitely not feature.

He watched Monday’s game on crutches and has been sidelined since mid-November, having been an ever-present up to that point.

Taron Hare, who never played a senior game for City during a season-long stay before his release last summer, is expected to finally get a competitive run-out at Bootham Crescent with his outing at left-wing back against his old club this week representing a 22nd first XI appearance this season.

Ferriby had lost seven and drawn one of their previous eight away games prior to their 2-1 win at Maidstone the last Saturday before Christmas.

Their only other success on the road in 2016/17 came at Gateshead, who were defeated back in September when Thompson got the only goal of the game.

North Ferriby (probable): Watson; Middleton, Skelton, Gray; Fallowfield, Sutton, Armstrong, Emerton, Hare; Wootton, Thompson.
