1 Current chairman Harry Twamley founded the club, as a little church team when he was just 13.

2 The name Curzon Ashton was derived from the fact that the team’s first games were played on Curzon Road in Ashton-under-Lyne.

3 There is a statue outside the club’s ground of Geoff Hurst, Jimmy Armfield and Simone Perrotta – who were all born in Ashton before going on to become members of World Cup-winning squads.

4 The club reached the second round of the FA Cup in 2008 after beating Exeter 3-2, despite holding on having conceded two goals in the last six minutes.

5 Curzon fell at the next hurdle 2-0 to Kidderminster having been reduced to ten men after 30 minutes when keeper David Carnell was sent off.

6 Former York City midfielder Manny Panther was an unused sub for Exeter when they were beaten by Curzon, while fellow ex-Bootham Crescent trio Keith Lowe, Russell Penn and Andy Ferrell helped mastermind the win for Kidderminster.

7 Michael Potts – another one-time Minsterman – signed for Curzon in the summer, but has since moved on to Bamber Bridge.

8 Amanda Barrie, who played Alma Baldwin in Coronation Street and was a regular in Carry On films, was born in Ashton

9 Another stalwart of the famous soap Bill Tarney, who played Jack Duckworth, also counted it as his home town and was buried there.

10 The club’s 4,000-capacity Tameside stadium, which meets National League requirements, was officially opened in 2005 by Sir Alex Ferguson. For the first game at the new ground, Curzon played a Manchester United XI, which included Gerard Pique, Giuseppe Rossi, Fraizer Campbell and Jonny Evans.
