FORMER York City strikers Michael Rankine and Adam Boyes will be aiming to shoot down their old club for bottom-of-the-table Guiseley tonight.

The pair are expected to lead the line for the part-time Leeds side, who remain the only National League team not to win a game this term, taking just three points from draws against bottom-half teams Braintree (0-0), Woking (1-1) and Maidstone (1-1).

Rankine and Boyes are Guiseley’s leading marksmen on two goals this term, along with another ex-Minsterman Oli Johnson, who has been sidelined since coming off injured during the first half of the draw at Maidstone on September 17.

The trio are all on barren runs, though, with Rankine without a goal in ten outings, Johnson five and Boyes four.

All three have also only started seven matches in a team where no player has been an ever-present this season.

Fellow ex-Minstermen Adam Smith and Will Hatfield, meanwhile, have got on the scoresheet too for the Nethermoor Park outfit this term.

Hatfield has made the starting line-up 11 times and Smith has been in the first XI for three matches, but has struggled for fitness and not featured since bank holiday August.

The basement team also gave defender Connor Brown his debut at the weekend following his release by Oldham at the end of August.

He was recruited with fellow right-backs Danny East and Javan Vidal both in the treatment room, but suffered a nightmare start to his Guiseley career by scoring the own goal that gave Sutton United a 1-0 win.

Former Oldham and Bury centre-back Adam Lockwood, 34, was confirmed last month as the West Yorkshire side’s permanent successor to former City defender Mark Bower as manager.

Lockwood has also brought in his ex-Doncaster boss Dave Penney as assistant-manager.

The pair are attempting to revive a Guiseley team, with an average crowd of 768, who are six points adrift at the bottom and a further three from a place outside the relegation zone.

But some hope is provided by the fact that seven of the team’s ten defeats have only been by an odd-goal margin

Guiseley (probable): Maxted, Brown, Lowe, Atkinson, Lawlor, Purver, Walton, Hatfield, Webb-Foster, Rankine, Boyes.
