THE boss of York’s football club is taking legal action against his counterpart at the city’s rugby league club, over allegedly defamatory comments made online.

John Guildford, owner and chairman of the York City Knights rugby league club, issued a statement on Wednesday saying that he faced legal action from Jason McGill, chairman of York City FC, over the comments, but adding that he stood by them.

Mr McGill declined to comment while the matter was sub-judice.

The Press understands the case relates to comments made on social media, about the clubs' involvement with the troubled Community Stadium project, which should see the two sports sharing a new ground beside the Vangarde site at Monks Cross.
