TRANMERE Rovers will arrive at York City hoping to avoid their longest run of successive defeats as a National League outfit.

Losses to Aldershot (3-1) and Lincoln (1-0) mean the Wirral outfit have suffered back-to-back league reverses for the first time in ten months, equalling their worst run since failing to pick up a single point during their final six fixtures as a Football League outfit in 2015.

The September setbacks have seen ex-Luton boss Gary Brabin fall foul of the notorious Manager of the Month curse.

Brabin took the honours for August when his team won a possible 19 points from 21.

The former League Cup finalists also missed out on a chance to return to the top of the table at the weekend, with opponents Lincoln moving into pole position instead.

Defeat to Aldershot, meanwhile, was Tranmere’s first on the road in 15 matches since last November, but they still boast the division’s best defensive record with seven goals conceded.

Brabin’s men have also netted in each of their last 17 games, although this season’s tally of a dozen goals is only the 12th-highest haul in the National League.

James Norwood (five) and Andy Cook (four) are responsible for three-quarters of those efforts and, perhaps in a bid to ease some of that burden, on-loan Shrewsbury teenager Ethan Jones has been recruited and could be given a full debut despite nine players having been ever-presents this term.

Tranmere (probable): Davies, Vaughan, Ihiekwe, McNulty, Hughes, Harris, Maynard, S Jennings, Norwood, Cook, Jones.
