YORK City boss Jackie McNamara has admitted his team must target six points from their next two home games to stay on the coattails of the National League’s pacesetters.

The Minstermen entertain top-eight sides Tranmere and Dover tomorrow night and on Saturday respectively, hoping to improve on their current 16th position in the table.

Third-placed Tranmere lie eight points clear of City and the gap to the play-off positions is just one fewer.

But ten points from a possible 12 have been pocketed by McNamara’s side this term and the ex-Dundee United chief said: “We’ve given ourselves quite a lot to do to catch the teams in front of us, but I’m more than confident we can do that once we have sorted out our mentality away from home because I believe we can beat anybody.

“Tranmere started the season well and scored a few goals, but we’ve got to make sure we get six points from our next two home games.”

City will be without Yan Klukowski for the visit of the Wirral outfit due to a torn calf muscle, which is set to see him sidelined for a month.

Aidan Connolly won’t feature because of a hamstring problem that is expected to clear by the weekend and, while Clovis Kamdjo has returned to training following the knee problem that has seen him miss the last two matches, he is not expected to be involved either.

The City boss explained: “Yan has torn his calf and will be out for a few weeks. Aidan might be OK for Saturday.

“It’s similar to the problem he had before – a bit of fatigue in his hamstring – which is a little concern. Clovis has trained for the first time since his knee problem, but tomorrow might be too soon and we’ll look towards Saturday.”

Kaine Felix will start, though, after impressing as a second-half replacement during City’s last two matches and on-loan Sheffield United striker Jake Wright is also in line for a recall after recovering from a foot injury.

Their inclusions and Connolly’s absence is likely to see City switch from 4-3-1-2 to a 4-3-3 formation with Felix and Wright raiding down the flanks.

Detailing his tactical approach, McNamara added: “Their back four don’t really move.

“They play 4-3-3 and we will be changing shape. The way they have been setting up, it would have been difficult to find Aidan in that position behind the front two anyway because their midfield three all protect the back four.

“The game will probably become stretched and we need to get the ball out wide and go at them. I think we need a little injection of pace to isolate certain areas of their team and we’ve seen what that can do with Kaine’s last two games, so it’s important we use that and he’s earned his chance.

“Hopefully, he can do the same from the start and the duration of the game. Jake Wright will also come back in.

“I thought Saturday’s game (the 2-0 defeat at Torquay) would have been ideal for him with some of the balls over the top and we must use the squad to freshen things up when necessary.

“It’s all about the people coming in being positive and we needs others like Daniel Nti and Justin Johnson to step us as well when they get the opportunity to make their claim for a jersey.”

McNamara will be monitoring the discipline and fitness levels, meanwhile, of five-goal, leading marksman Richard Brodie, pointing out: “He’s had a couple of bookings for dissent and, whilst I understand he’s frustrated, you won’t change the officials’ minds after the game which is when he got his last one.

“It’s up to myself to deal with the referee then and he’s got to learn. We’ll also have to see how he is physically, because he tired at Wrexham when we played Saturday-Monday, so everyone else will need to pull their weight too.”
