YORK City teenager Callum Rzonca aims to share a pitch with Euro 2016 final match-winner Eder again one day.

Rzonca made his second of just two senior outings so far for the Minstermen during last August's 3-0 Capital One Cup defeat at Premier League Swansea on a night when Eder, who has since moved to Lille, led the line for the Welsh hosts.

City managed to keep the Portugal striker, who grabbed the only goal of his country's historic victory over hosts France on Sunday, off the scoresheeet during 90 minutes of that contest.

It is also still an occasion that inspires Rzonca, who does not want that game to represent the final time he takes on some of the game's leading lights.

Following Paris' reminder of his fledgling career high, Rzonca said: "I was watching the final with a few of my mates and we had a laugh about it when Eder came on. It's massively motivating, though, when you see something like that, knowing you have played on the same pitch as somebody who is among all those world-class players at the Euros.

"You think why can't I get up to that level and I believe I can. That's my ambition."

Youth-team graduate Rzonca's immediate targets, meanwhile, are more modest, adding: "I hope to be playing in the first team regularly next season and scoring a few goals."

With that in mind, the 19-year-old attacker feels his nine-game loan spell at Evo-Stik Northern Premier League side Stamford last term was a good test of his resolve ahead of the 2016/17 National League campaign, reasoning: "I did well at Stamford and had a few good games.

"I didn't find it hard because it was a lower level and, going into York's first team, is obviously a better standard, but the physicality was still the same, so it was a good experience for me playing men's football."

Despite contract extensions being scarce following City's relegation from the Football League, Rzonca revealed that City boss Jackie McNamara has already indicated that he would be getting an extra 12 months following his first professional deal.

"Even though I wasn't playing, he told me in the middle of the season to keep doing what I was and I would be in his plans this season," Rzonca said.

But a close-season accident means the 5ft 6in forward will need to bide his time for a pre-season chance.

"I dislocated my shoulder, but will be back in training next week and playing in a few weeks," Rzonca explained. "I've done it before with my other shoulder and it will be alright.

"It happened in the summer and, whilst it's frustrating, you get ups and downs in football and just have to try to get back as soon as you can, then try and impress."

Elsewhere, City's National League rivals Chester have recruited one-time, on-loan Bootham Crescent left-back Evan Horwood from Northampton.

Forest Green have also brought in Oldham striker Rhys Murphy and midfielder Jeff Hughes has rejoined Tranmere from Cambridge.

Goalkeeper Michael Poke, meanwhile, has switched from Eastleigh to Woking and fellow net-minder Craig Ross has moved from Macclesfield to Whitehawk.
