WINGER Danny Galbraith is seeking redemption by helping relegated York City bounce back into the Football League at the first attempt.

Galbraith and first-year professional Callum Rzonca are last season’s only out-of-contract players still on the books at Bootham Crescent and the 25-year-old attacker is in no doubts what the club’s 2016/17 ambitions should be

He said: “All experiences – good and bad – set you up for the future and there’s no way I want to be feeling like I did in May again. But I believe we could be feeling very differently next spring and, while we’ve not talked about promotion, it’s crystal clear that should be the target.

“The club shouldn’t be in this position and those of us who were here last season have to take a portion of blame for what happened, but we have a chance to put that right and that’s great motivation for me. I’m also grateful to still be here.

“There are a few players who still haven’t got clubs at the minute and I know myself how difficult that can be.”

Galbraith signed for the Minstermen in November having been unattached following his release by Gillingham at the end of the previous campaign.

City boss Jackie McNamara, meanwhile, had taken the helm only a month earlier and Galbraith believes both mew will benefit from having a full summer of work behind them at the club this year.

“I need a good pre-season for myself fitness wise and to work with the team and manager to see what he wants going into the season,” Galbraith reasoned. “It’s never easy for players and managers to go in halfway through a season, because there’s only so much you can change and, even though I keep myself fit, when I came to the club I couldn’t get myself to the levels I would have had if I’d done a pre-season.

“Now there’s a clean slate for everybody though. I feel I’ve been through the bad times last season and I think things will change, so I want to be part of the good times ahead of the club.

“Last season was probably the lowest I’ve experienced, but the club feels 100 per cent different now. It feels like a new club with all the players that have come in.”
