YORK City are running the rule over three trialists after returning to pre-season training at their Wigginton Road training base.
Bootham Crescent chief Jackie McNamara did not want to reveal the identities of the three young hopefuls, but did confirm that one was a quick striker who has represented Great Britain in the 400 metres and the others are a right back and a midfielder.
All three are expected to play some part in Saturday's opening pre-season friendly against Middlesbrough on Saturday at Bootham Crescent, kick-off 12.30pm.
McNamara said: "We have signed 17 players now, including the first-year pros Nick Kennedy and Tyler Walton, so we've got good numbers in. It's the same amount that Cheltenham brought in last summer after being relegated and they bounced straight back up as champions.
"We're also looking at three trialists. One is a striker and has been a 400m runner for Great Britain, one is a right back and the other is a midfielder and the early signs are promising with all three of them."
Danny Galbraith, meanwhile, has agreed an extension to his contract at Bootham Crescent, but goalkeeper Michael Ingham has declined the offer of a new deal, ending his nine-year association with the club.
