YORK City boss Jackie McNamara is hoping he has found solutions for two problem areas in last season's squad following a double swoop for Clovis Kamdjo and Kaine Felix.

Midfielder Kamdjo, whose contract at Forest Green came to an end last season, has been earmarked for the anchoring defensive role that departed trio Russell Penn, Luke Summerfield and James Berrett, as well as Matty Dixon struggled to make their own in 2015/16.

Berrett moved to Sky Bet League Two Grimsby with McNamara's blessing yesterday despite still having a year left to run on his Bootham Crescent contract.

Winger Felix, meanwhile, has arrived from National League North outfit Boston United with the City chief welcoming the injection of pace that the likes of he and fellow summer singing Dennis Nti will bring to the squad.

Aside from the sparingly-used Kenny McEvoy and Bradley Fewster, the Minstermen finished last term with little attacking speed and, on the duo's welcome attributes, McNamara said: "They are exciting additions. Clovis has played at centre half and right back in the past, but I want to play him in a disciplined, defensive midfield role, similar to how he was used at Barnet.

"It's a specialist position and we tried a couple of players there last season, but it was a bit of a problem area and it's an important job because of how I want to play. Clovis is ideal, though, because's he's mobile and strong and also reads the game and protects the back four well.

"Kaine is a young lad, who has been around the England C squad and has incredible pace. He can also score goals and has a hunger to do well after coming into the full-time game.

"Along with Denis Nti, we will have a lot of pace in the team and that will make a massive difference to us."

Both players have agreed two-year terms with City

Kamdjo, 25, moved to England from Cameroon at the age of 14 and came through the academy system at Reading, where he captained the youth team before being released at the end of his scholarship.

He subsequently joined Sky Bet League Two side Barnet on a one-year deal in August 2009.

Making over a century of appearances for the Bees during the next three campaigns, he moved to then National League outfit Salisbury on a free transfer in 2012, enjoying 40 outings in all competitions and scoring four times.

Kamdjo went on to complete a transfer to Forest Green in 2014 and, after appearing 36 times in his first season, was loaned to National League rivals Boreham Wood last term.

Ex-Peterborough academy player Felix, 21, moved to Southern League premier division side St Neots Town at the age of 16.

After two years with the Saints, the 5ft 10in attacker then followed manager Dennis Green to Boston in July 2014, where the pair enjoyed consecutive National League North play-off campaigns.

He also received a call-up to the England C squad and made 76 appearances for the Lincolnshire outfit, netting eight times.

But City have missed out on another transfer target - last season's loan signing Lewis Alessandra - who has left Rochdale for League Two Hartlepool.

McNamara added: "I'm disappointed not to get Lewis, but it was a bit of a long shot, both financially and expecting him to drop down two divisions from League One. We need to have players who want to play and fight for us in the National League and that's why I agreed to release James Berrett as well.

"Grimsby showed an interest in him and, after speaking to him, I would never stand in anybody's way if they want to play in the Football League."

McNamara also confirmed that Jake Hyde will not be reporting to Wigginton Road for the start of pre-season training today, but fellow transfer-listed forward Vadaine Oliver will be present.

"We're letting Jake go out on trial and, hopefully, he can get somewhere closer to home," the City boss explained. "We've had little bits of interest in Vadaine, but nothing concrete as yet and we're looking for a fee for him. He will be training with us and, whilst he's not in my plans, we will see what we can do to help with his situation."

Elsewhere, former City favourite and current Chester boss Jon McCarthy has signed centre-back Ross Killock and midfielder Elliot Durrell from Leeds and Tamworth respectively.

Ex-City chief Gary Mills, meanwhile, has recruited Macclesfield goalkeeper Shwan Jalal for Wrexham and released Eastleigh marksman Jack Midson has joined Braintree.

Midfielder Luke Bellamy has also swapped Dover for Aldershot, while Gateshead have snapped up Barnsley left-back George Smith, Lincoln have added Stevenage forward Adam Marriott to their ranks and David Martin has been transferred from Whitehawk to Bromley.
