PREMIER League newcomers Middlesbrough will visit York City in a pre-season friendly next month.

The Teessiders, who returned to the top flight after finishing second to Burnley in last season's Championship, will visit Bootham Crescent on Saturday July 9, kick-off 12.30pm.

It will be the second summer in a row that Boro, under manager Aitor Karanka, have provided pre-season opposition for the Minstermen.

Last season's contest ended in a 1-0 win for Boro after a late goal by striker Bradley Fewster – who subsequently spent the majority of the campaign on loan with City.

Fewster scored eight goals in 24 appearances for City but has already ruled out the possibility of playing in the National League.

The Boro game will give City supporters an early glimpse of manager Jackie McNamara's summer signings.

McNamara has already signed several new players including Ben Clappison, Jack Higgins, Richard Brodie, Alex Whittle, Shaun Rooney and Ben Barber and has resisted the temptation to take his squad on tour or away for a training camp due to financial restraints.

City's first league game of the new season takes place on August 6 while Boro will have to wait another seven days before kicking-off the Premier League campaign on August 13.

Ticket prices for the friendly are £12 adults and £6 concessions.
