KYLE CAMERON has been offered a new contract at Newcastle United but is looking to secure another loan move away from St James' Park next season.

The 19-year-old defender has not ruled out a return to York City, having made 18 appearances and scored one goal for the Bootham Crescent outfit following his mid-January arrival in North Yorkshire.

But he is hoping to ply his trade two divisions higher than the Minstermen following their relegation from the Football League.

Hexham-born Cameron said: "I've been offered a new contract at Newcastle. I'm just waiting on a few little bits of negotiation, but it looks like I will be back there next season.

"I don't think I'm quite ready for Newcastle United's first team so, then, the target will be to go out on loan again. Maybe, I'd be looking at a League One club, but I'll see what interest there is and who comes knocking in the summer, then I'll make my decisions."

The 6ft 3in centre half, who also operated at left back for City, has been on the Magpies books for ten years.

Having also spent a month on loan at Workington miday through last season, he made his Minstermen debut in a 1-0 home defeat to Newport and went on to score his first senior goal during last month's 2-1 defeat at Hartlepool.

On the highs and lows of his spell at Bootham Crescent, Cameron added: "I've thoroughly enjoyed myself because I've played a lot although, obviously, the results and going down wasn't what I wanted when I came to the club. I wanted to help the team stay up, but I just have to look to push on next season now."

Having experienced hostility from the terraces during City's sorry season, Cameron also reckons he will now be better prepared if he ever has to perform in a similar pressurised environment at his parent club, whose fans rarely hold back their emotions either.

The former England under 16 and 17 international, who switched allegiance to Scotland at the older age group, reasoned: "If I'm ever in that situation again, where the team are bottom of the league and are fighting to stay up, I've got that experience and I will just be able to block it out and not let it affect me. It's been a massive learning curve and the fans obviously have exactly the same passion for their club at Newcastle."

On his farewell City appearance - the 1-1 final-day draw at Morecambe - the Toon Army teenager admitted: "It was probably a fair result. After they equalised, there was a spell when both teams had chances, then everything went a bit flat and there wasn't a lot of energy in the game."
