APART from the recent home game against Portsmouth, this season is the worst it has been for York City for many years.

One has to ask why. Could it possibly be that events behind the scenes have affected the performance on the pitch.

It started with the departure months ago of Jonathan Greening and Richard Cresswell, with no explanation given.

We then hear rumours of discontent among board members. Hardly the actions to instil confidence in the players.

The latest incident is when our £1 million investment player, Ben Godfrey, was named as Sky Bet League Two’s LFE Apprentice of the Year at a ceremony in Manchester.

This is a local player who came through the ranks and was transferred to Norwich City for a fee with possibly lucrative follow on payments to come.

It is scandalous that no one from the club could attend.

Ben Godfrey was gracious enough to thank the people who helped him win this award both at York City and Norwich.

With this award he received a cheque for £500 and City one for £1,000.

Will City decline to accept the cheque as they did the invitation?
