YORK City super-sub Danny Galbraith looks set to be named on the bench again for Saturday's trip to table-topping Northampton.

Galbraith set up Luke Summerfield's last equaliser at Carlisle a fortnight ago after entering proceedings during the second half.

He also grabbed a spectacular stoppage-time winner last weekend to sink Stevenage 2-1 following another cameo outing.

The former Hibernian attacker has not made a full recovery, though, from the groin problem that restricted him to a bit-part role against the Hertfordshire side and City boss Jackie McNamara is unwilling to run the risk of losing the proven matchwinner for long parts of the vital run-in to the end of the campaign.

"Danny Galbraith is still feeling the effects of his groin injury and it's important that we are careful and cautious with him," McNamara explained. "We've got a lot of big games coming up and six during February alone, so we need everybody fit and I don't want to lose anybody at this stage."

Former Scotland international Derek Riordan, meanwhile, is likely to take his place alongside Galbraith in the dugout at Sixfields, as he makes his first City matchday squad.

"Derek will be in the squad," the Minstermen chief confirmed. "He has trained with us this week and is getting stronger.

"He's one of a few players I will be looking at in the rearranged North Riding Cup game at Guisborough next Tuesday, but that doesn't mean he won't have a part to play at Northampton as well."

On-loan Burnley striker Ntumba Massanka could be doubtful for the Cobblers' test having missed training due to illness but midfielder Luke Summerfield has recovered from a similar complaint.

Centre-back George Swan should also be available again, having missed the Stevenage game due to a turned ankle, while Jake Hyde, who has not featured since the end of November, is closing in on a comeback following his hernia operation.

Hyde has been undergoing rehabilitation at the FA's national training centre with McNamara adding: "He's doing some running but it will probably be next week before he starts training with the first team.

"He has had two weeks at St George's doing strengthening work so, hopefully, during the next couple of weeks, he will be in and around the squad."

McNamara is no closer to knowing when Hyde's fellow striker Reece Thompson, who has been ruled out with a long-term illness since October, will be reporting back for training.
