VADAINE Oliver will serve a three match ban after York City's appeal against his red card was rejected by the Football Association.

The striker was dismissed after an off-the-ball clash six minutes into the second half of the Minstermen's 2-2 draw with Carlisle United at Bootham Crescent on Saturday.

Manager Russ Wilcox initially pondered whether to launch an appeal after reviewing "inconclusive" DVD footage of the incident after the game. But the club pressed ahead on Monday in a bid to get a suspension overturned.

A statement from the Bootham Crescent club said: "Vadaine Oliver will serve an immediate three-match ban after the Football Association rejected the club’s appeal to overturn the red card shown to the striker in last weekend’s fixture against Carlisle United.

"The 23-year-old was dismissed by referee Nicholas Kinseley in the 51st minute of the encounter at Bootham Crescent for an off-the-ball incident. Oliver will now miss the Club’s next three matches against Notts County, Oxford United and Cambridge United."
