ON-LOAN Oldham striker Rhys Turner is looking for more pitch time following his switch to York City.

The 20-year-old forward has featured in eight of the Latics' nine matches this term but half of those outings have come as a second-half replacement.

Turner has also only completed 90 minutes just once during his 25 matches for the Lancashire outfit since a £50,000 move from Conference North Stockport County in January 2014.

The ex-Preston trainee even expressed surprise when informed of the number of games he has featured in this term before outlining his quest for greater exposure at Bootham Crescent.

"Is it eight?" he queried of his match tally in 2015/16. "I've not really started many and most of the appearances have been for ten or 15 minutes.

"I've had my chances but not played as much football as I would have wanted to, so I'm hoping to get more minutes at York, rather than games, because anybody can keep coming on for ten minutes.

"Hopefully, I can help push York up the table and score some goals too, because I haven't got one yet this season."

With the current terms of Turner's loan spell taking him to mid-October, the ex-Myerscough College pupil is also open to the prospect of a longer stay, reasoning: "If the gaffer likes me and I enjoy my time here then I don't see why that wouldn't be an option.

"It would be better than sitting on the bench in League One. I will do anything that will benefit my career and I don't think League Two is a big drop. I think the standard is quite similar to League One."

Turner added that he is planning to use his pace to good affect for his new team, saying: "I am quick and I like to run in behind defences. I can win my fair share of aerial battles too and one-on-one finishing is probably my biggest strength."

His first loan move will give Turner the opportunity, meanwhile, to learn more about his birthplace.

"I was born in York but didn't stay here too long," he revealed with a Lancastrian accent. "I think I left before I was even one and have lived in Preston for most of my life, so I don't know anything about York really and this will be the first time I can remember being here."

Former Oldham boss Darren Kelly - the ex-Minsterman defender and coach - repelled an approach for Turner from City prior to his dismissal following a 5-1 thumping to Peterborough last weekend.

That decision saddened Turner, although he admitted a run of three straight defeats did not help Kelly's cause.

"I really enjoyed working with Darren," he said. "We saw eye to eye and I went to him with a few problems that he helped me out with.

"I was quite disappointed when he left because I got on really well with him but, whilst any sacking is harsh, if you don't get the results in football, that's what costs you your job."
