YORK City attacker Michael Coulson has travelled to London to see a consultant after picking up a groin injury.
Coulson missed the whole of pre-season with an Achilles problem but had returned to training before his latest setback.
The Scarborough-born, 27-year-old has not featured in a City squad since the start of the new Sky Bet League Two campaign and could now face a lengthy lay-off.
Minstermen chief Russ Wilcox said: “Michael Coulson is in London seeing a specialist. He got back from his Achilles injury but is now feeling discomfort in his groin.
“We are seeing if an operation will be required and it’s bad news for him and us because he’s an important player who was outstanding last season and played nearly every game. He was that keen to come back in great shape from the summer that maybe he worked too hard and should have let his body recover a bit more.
“He broke down with his heel when he was training on his own and that can then lead to more niggles.”
