HARTLEPOOL United are expected to select the same starting line up at York City that has seen them kick off the new League Two season with back-to-back wins.

Last term's final-day survivors followed up a 2-0 home victory over Morecambe on Saturday with a 1-0 Capital One Cup surprise at Fleetwood Town this week, meaning changes are not predicted at Bootham Crescent.

New skipper Billy Paynter, drafted in following his release by Carlisle in May, has been on target in both matches and fellow summer signing Rakish Bingham, from Mansfield, also netted in the league triumph over Morecambe.

Paynter and Bingham are two of five new faces for 2015/16 in the current first XI.

The others are goalkeeper Adam Bartlett, centre-back Harry Worley and holding midfielder Carl Magnay, who were recruited from Gateshead, Stevenage and Grimsby respectively.

Bartlett, 29, has been given his chance after first-choice Trevor Carson, who was brought in from Cheltenham to take over from the Bootham Crescent-bound Scott Flinders, broke a toe in pre-season.

Pool will also be without crocked defender Dan Jones (back), midfielder Brad Walker (thigh) and utility man Jordan Richards.

But York-born pair Michael Duckworth and Michael Woods will be in the visitors' side against their home-town club.

Right-back Duckworth was released by City in 2010 by then manager Martin Foyle but worked his way back into the pro game following three years as a part-time player with Harrogate Railway and Bradford Park Avenue.

Ex-Chelsea and Leeds prospect Woods, who was never on the Minstermen's books, also drifted out of full-time football during a spell at Harrogate Town before landing a contract at Hartlepool last August.

His season was cut short, though, in February when he broke his leg after a clash with City defender Dave Winfield, who was on loan with AFC Wimbledon at the time.

Hartlepool assistant manager Sam Collins could carry on holding the fort against the Minstermen with boss Ronnie Moore having missed the Fleetwood match to be at his daughter's side after she was taken to hospital with pneumonia during a holiday in Spain.

Despite Moore's preference for 3-5-2 last term, Collins fielded the same 4-3-3 formation at Fleetwood that proved successful against Morecambe and is likely to employ the same tactics for the season's third game.

That means ex-Dunston UTS attacker Scott Fenwick will play alongside Paynter and Bingham in a three-pronged strikeforce.

Hartlepool (probable): Bartlett, Duckworth, Harrison, Worley, Carroll, Magnay, Featherstone, Woods, Fenwick, Paynter, Bingham.
