YORK City will not be dissuaded from adding another goalkeeper to their squad despite Michael Ingham joining Jason Mooney on the Bootham Crescent books.

Out-of-contract Ingham has agreed to sign a new one-year deal with the Minstermen just a day before that offer was due to be withdrawn.

City boss Russ Wilcox will continue his bid to recruit a third net-minder, though, despite the transfer-listed Mooney having not yet been fixed up with alternative employers for next season.

On his shot-stopper dilemma, Wilcox said: "If we ended up with three keepers that wouldn't be ideal because we need to release money from somewhere, but we're still trying to bring somebody else in and that won't depend on getting Jason out."

But Wilcox added that the extent of his transfer-market activity remains dependent on whether Mooney and fellow listed professionals Femi Ilesnami, Marvin McCoy and Lindon Meikle move on.

"The budget is tight because of the transfer-listed players and that's why we have to do our homework properly in terms of the players we bring into the club," the City boss explained. "We have to make sure they are the right signings for us."

With Ingham, who has made 326 appearances for City, committing to the club, it means that all three out-of-contract players who were offered new terms at the end of the season have agreed to put pen to paper, following on from Tom Platt and Josh Carson's decisions to stay in North Yorkshire.

Former Northern Ireland international Ingham was the subject of interest from Sky Bet League One Oldham Athletic, where his former Minstermen team-mate Darren Kelly is now manager.

Kelly was prepared to offer the 34-year-old a position as player/goalkeeper coach at Boundary Park but Wilcox believes that the choice of Ingham, Platt and Carson to carry on plying their trade with City is an encouraging sign.

He said: "Michael has decided to stay for another season, which is pleasing. With him, Tom Platt and Josh Carson having signed, it means we are doing something right because players want to stay at the club.

"That's important because they feel, like we do, that we are moving in the right direction. It's positive for the football club.

"Michael showed his experience at the back end of last season and he's now got to work hard and push hard to get a start again next season."

Ingham, who signed permanently for City in 2008 following a loan spell from Sunderland five years earlier, played in all but the last of the final eight fixtures of 2014/15, helping the club retain their Football League status after on-loan Peterborough keeper Bobby Olejnik was sent off at Mansfield in March.

With 116 clean sheets, he also remains just four short of 1955 FA Cup semi-final hero Tommy Forgan's all-time City shut-out record.

Elsewhere, promoted League Two new boys Barnet and Bristol Rovers have bolstered their ranks with new defenders.

Gavin Hoyte has joined last season's Conference champions Barnet from Gillingham, while James Clarke has left Woking for the Pirates.

Newly-relegated Leyton Orient, meanwhile, have recruited Sammy Moore and Sean Clohessy from Wimbledon and Colchester respectively, while one-time Minsterman Alex Rodman has swapped non-League Gateshead for Newport.

Hartlepool have also snapped up Harry Worley from Stevenage and Lee Collins has moved to Mansfield from Northampton.
