RUSS WILCOX has admitted he faces a “massive” summer recruiting the right players to improve York City’s fortunes next season.
The Minstermen will go into this afternoon’s final game of the season at Portsmouth sixth-bottom in the Sky Bet League Two standings having secured Football League survival with three games left to play.
Wilcox is setting no hasty targets for next term before this campaign has come to a close but knows his activity in the transfer market during coming weeks will hold the key to better fortunes.
He said: “It will be a big summer at the football club when the importance of recruitment will be massive because, if you don’t bring in the right players, you won’t win football matches.
"I won’t be making any predictions for next season other than wanting to do better than we have done this season, because it will depend on who we can bring in and move on, as well as what other clubs are doing as well.
“You don’t know what the budgets will be like for teams coming down from League One and Shrewsbury have gone straight back up, as Scunthorpe did last season.”
